The Centennial Legacy Awards are awarded by the Longview Chamber of Commerce during its centennial year to honor businesses who have contributed extensively to the Longview Community. For over 100 years the Welch Funeral Home has served the families of Longview and Gregg County through providing a high standard of service. Founded in 1914 by W. M. Welch as Welch Hardware and Undertaking. His son, O. Thomas Welch, built a new facility and opened the Welch Funeral Home on S. Green Street in 1939 after a fire burned their hardware store. In January 2001, Thomas Welch's son, O. Thomas Welch, Jr. and his wife, Susan Welch, built the new facility located at 4619 Judson Road, setting a new, higher standard in area funeral service for the families of East Texas. Marcus Welch joined the business in 1975 as the fourth generation of the Welch family. He is Co-owner with Susan Welch. The Welch Funeral Home has been a member in good standing with the Longview Chamber of Commerce for nearly 92 years.
Welch Funeral Home received the Keep Longview Beautiful Award from the City Of Longview beautification committee in 2014, continuing the Welch tradition of beautiful landscaping of the Welch facilities. Marcus Welch received the award from Rita Fyffe, Kim Droege, and Billy Lee representing the city beautification committee. The organization recognizes local businesses which demonstrate excellence in landscaping and grounds within the community.
