Kathleen Lee Lutrick was born October 6, 1934 in Longview, Texas to J. W. Lee and Kathleen Moorer Lee, their only child. She is survived by her only child Cheryl Kathleen Lutrick Parrish. She died Saturday, January 27, 2018 in a Longview assisted-living facility.
Kathleen attended Spring Hill School and graduated from both Longview High School and Kilgore Junior College. In 1953 she married Monroe V. Lutrick, whom she met at Kilgore Junior College. They lived in Louisiana, Texas, and New Mexico.
Kathleen was very active everywhere they lived in various church, community, and social activities in every town she lived. She was an electoral official and judge for elections for years. Always available for her daughter’s school, church, and Rainbow Girl activities as a chaperone, room mother, and mother advisor.
Kathleen moved back to Longview in 1980 to care for her parents. She was a founding member of Oak Crest Woman’s Club. Numerous times she was a President of Longview Women’s Forum, Prelude, Newcomer’s Club, and Oak Crest Women’s Club. She was also a member of XYZ Club at Greggton United Methodist Church, various bridge clubs through the years, Classic Care, Senior Circle, and various church, hospital, and bank travel groups. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi, Eastern Star, Pythians, and Rebecca Lodge. She served on the Longview Symphony Board for years, and was in charge of the box office.
She was active at Greggton United Methodist Church, during her parent’s lifetimes and afterward. She and her daughter, Cheryl, developed and donated the Prayer Garden in memory of the Lee’s and the Church Parlor in memory of Mrs. Lee per her husband’s wishes.
Kathleen has been a member of First Presbyterian Church since her move back to Longview. She enjoyed many activities and trips with her member friends. For years she volunteered with Meals on Wheels with her friends. Church Christmas parties were very special for her and were hosted by her in her parents’ home. Other holidays were hosted in her home as she loved to decorate for every holiday. In recent years she loved to provide the table decorations for the Music on the Square Christmas Celebration open to the public. January was devoted to determining the next year’s decorations. Lunch and a Movie and 3 G were very important activities she enjoyed participating in with friends.
Kathleen loved to travel, see special events, attend plays, concerts, and parades. She traveled the world with the various groups, friends, and family. She was especially proud to have attended The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and The Rose Bowl Parade. She spread Texas and patriotic pride worldwide as she often dressed in Texas and patriotic attire completely. Holiday times throughout the year were special to her with friends still remembering her unusual accessories for her holiday clothes. Every holiday was a reason to celebrate.
Services for Ms. Lutrick will be held Thursday, February 1, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Longview with Rev. Kendal Land officiating. Entombment will follow at Rosewood Park. In lieu of the customary floral tributes, the family request memorials to the First Presbyterian Church of Longview.
