Elizabeth Grimes was born on October 20, 1924 in Longview, Texas. She graduated from Judson Grove High School and then attended Texas State College for Women and East Texas State University.
She married Bryan Everett Grimes in 1953. They were active in Tyler Bible Church and Grace Bible Church. She taught school for 35 years at Pine Springs and Tyler ISD. Mrs. Grimes was active in teacher organizations and the Rho and Beta Sigma Chapters of Alpha Delta Kappa. She also served as State President of Texas Alpha Delta Kappa. Mrs. Grimes was a 72-year and charter member of the Aaron Burleson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was also active in the Daughters of the American Colonists.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Morgan B. and Gladys Culpepper Henderson as well as a brother, Morgan Barry Henderson, Jr.
She is survived by two sisters, Jane Boothe of Gonzales, Texas and Mary Ruth and George Hastie, Longview, Texas, four nephews: Billy and Susan Boothe and Barry and Lauren Boothe of Gonzales as well as David and Mariane Hastie of Longview and Daniel and Georgia Hastie of Gladewater and two nieces: Marilyn and Edward Retta of Dallas and Laura Alice and John Hale of San Antonio. By marriage she is survived by 4 nieces: Pat Harness and Joyce Schutt, Elkland, Missouri and Sharon Schull and Ann and Brad Cole, Springfield, Missouri, and one nephew, Gene Schutt of Elkland. Numerous great-nieces and nephews also survive her.
