Bessie Ruth Chapman, 86 of Longview Was called home to be with Our Lord Sunday, October 22, 2017. Born December 28, 1930 in Judson Texas to Luther B and Bessie Eleah Alexander. Bessie attended Hallsville schools. She was married to her loving husband Louie B. Chapman for 58 years. To this marriage four daughters were born.
The majority of her life was spent taking care of her children and other family members as well. As a Christian woman she was devoted to her church family at Fellowship Baptist Church. She was famous for her pies, cakes and Nanny Banany Puddin. She enjoyed embroidery and making baby quilts.
She is survived by daughters Shirley Drake and husband Richard, Judy Hilgert and husband David and Darlene Chapman-Davis and husband Ken, and Lisa Kaye Chapman. Also survived by 10 grandchildren. Numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, sister, husband Louie B. Chapman, daughter Wanda Cahill, and grandson Jerry Don Cahill.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26th, 2017, at Welch Funeral Home in Longview from 5:00 P.M. till 7:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, October 27th, 2017, at Fellowship Baptist Church in Longview at 1818 Spring Hill Road with Ben Clayton and Scott O'Rear officiating. A private interment will follow at Elmira Cemetery with Robert Drake, David Hilgert, Ken Davis, Zack Davis, Vince Taylor, J.P. Childress serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Matthews and Chris Castle.
