Joe Sullins

Joe L. Sullins, age 82, of Longview, Texas passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born February 6, 1936, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Joe and Velma Fletcher Sullins. He met his wife of 56 years, Bobbie Watson, in Jackson, Mississippi in 1962.
Joe attended Mississippi State University and worked in the construction industry in Jackson as a salesman at Jackson Ready Mix. Joe and Bobbie served as youth counselors for the youth group choir at Epworth Methodist Church. Some of their best memories were traveling the south and spreading the Lord's message. In 1977 they joined Joe's twin brother, Jack Sullins and his family in East Texas where Joe was Vice President of Norton Concrete. He then went on to become a contractor for the Dallas Morning News retiring after 20 years in 2011.
Joe and Bobbie loved vacationing on the Gulf Coast and spent many summers on the beach with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe was an avid golfer and gardner. He enjoyed working in his yard where a weed was not long for this world! In retirement, Joe and Bobbie spent many wonderful vacations cruising around the world. Joe was President of the Oak Forrest Men's Golf Association for two years.
Survivors wife, Bobbie Sullins; sons, Jeff Sullins and wife, Kelly; Scott Sullins and wife, Kelley. eight grand children, Jesse Sullins and wife, Sam; Cassidy Sullins, Gage Sullins, Chelsea Fowler, Abigail Sullins, Cole Sullins, Eric Jefferson and fiancée, Amber Boswell and Megan Jefferson; six great grand children.
A Life Celebration will be held in the Welch Funeral Home Chapel at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2018, with Chaplin Josh Edds officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr Charles Martin, Larry Yates, Donny Riggs, Gary Johnson, Mel Sedillo and Jeff Porter. A Garden Court Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.
Memorials may be made to Heart'sWay Hospice of Northeast Texas or the American Cancer Society.
