Yevetta June (Nay) Hughes

July 14, 1924 ~ June 11, 2018 (age 93)
Yevetta June Hughes, age 93, of Longview, Texas passed away peacefully at Longview Regional Medical Center on Monday, June 11, 2018.
June was born on July 14, 1924, in Wolf Summit, West Virginia. Earl Sr. and Essie Nay moved their four children to Texas as part of a career in the oil industry. June graduated from Pine Tree High School and proudly attended two years at Marshall College.
June married the love of her live, Ronald Weldon Hughes, in 1946. The couple raised three children throughout the United States before settling in Longview over two decades ago, to be closer to family and friends.
June was a devoted and loving mother. She was very proud of her family and was excited to be called "Granny" or Auntie Y" by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. June was a vivacious host, who loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. A true Texan, June welcomed anyone to her home and dinner table.
June was a devoted Christian, servant to her community, and patron to local arts. She was passionate about ceramics, sewing, games and reading. June continued her early zeal for learning by traveling and exploring many exotic locations around the world with her best friend and cousin, Clara McDonald and husband, R.W. Hughes.
June was known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor; her contagious laugh and smile; her unwavering strength; and her unique ability to connect with people in a soulful way. Her spirit and life cannot possibly be summed in the words on this page; so "the life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living," Marcus Tullis Cicero.
June is survived by her children, Ronald Hughes and wife, Veda; Paul Hughes; and Terry Hughes; grandchildren, Chris Weaver; Virginia Walker; Katlin Walker; Jim Hicks; Jobeth Morris; Samantha Moores and husband, Michael; Megan McCluskey; Dustin Hughes and wife, Sandy; Bryan Hughes; and Chelsea Hughes; 17 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; sibling, Joe Nay; sisters-in-law, Nellie Nay; Anita Nay; Janice Hughes; and Edra Hughes.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Sr. and Essie Nay; husband, Ronald Weldon Hughes; siblings, Bart Nay and Earl Nay; in-laws, Peggie Nay; Grady Hughes; Billy Ray Hughes and his wife, Melba; O.D. Hughes and his wife, LaRea; O.B. Hughes; and Donald Hughes and his wife, Paulette.
A Life Celebration for June will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018, in the Chapel of Welch Funeral Home. A time of visitation will be Friday, June 15, 2018 from 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock in the evening at the funeral home.
